About the EBP
The European Biometrics Portal (EBP) is a project initiated by and belonging to the European Commission, DG Information Society, with the purpose to animate a Web Portal as focal point for information exchange, coordination and community building activities between the main biometrics actors in Europe.
The EBP principle is to be based on volunteer contributions of authors, working according to a “Wikipedian” spirit. EBP information may be public, or (through specific forums) restricted to a limited number of participants
The EBP access and membership are free of charge and the quality of the EBP content is mainly depending on the quality of the users community contributions.
To submit information on EBP, please identify yourself as a logged user (it is free) then you will become an EBP member and entitled to propose news, events, papers etc. for pan-European and even world-wide distribution.
Contributions are checked by the Portal administrator who “indexes” them according to the EBP taxonomy, then published rapidly: with all respect of your copyright, this administrator may contact you and ask for more information if the content of your contribution requests it.
Technical Characteristics
The European Biometrics Portal application is an example of integrating various existing open source software (or free software) components for building an e-Government public sector application providing information to the European Union governments, enterprises and citizens. The EBP illustrates DG Information Society and IDABC policies to apply open W3C standards and encourage the use of open source software where it provides better value for the invested money.
