The European Biometrics Portal (EBP) is initiated by the European Commission to encourage and support the exchange of information and data on biometric technology initiatives, deployments and trials. EBP is open to information coming from the world (not only Europe). It is access and membership free and the quality of the content is dependant on the quality of the users community contributions.

New Biometrics Centres of Excellence (CoE)

New CoEs just opened in Europe. In Graz, Siemens opened its CoE on September 5, 2006. In April 2005, Unisys did the same in Brussels, enabling governments and businesses to discuss and experience real life examples of biometrics solutions in real-time. It provides the last findings from European FP6 research (eJustice), interactive facilities, designed to showcase advanced identity management solutions to customers and illustrate potential real-life examples of biometrics technology. These range from cutting edge e-ID card and passport technology to the very advanced biometric authentication or identification techniques including match-on-card, 3D facial, electronic iris and finger print recognition... Multi-purpose cards and Banking institutions preferred !

According to a global study, public would prefer receiving multi-purpose biometric cards for securing access to transportation, public location, cross-border travels and Internet facilities. Financial institutions would be preferred to law enforcement of tax authorities to manage such multi-purpose identity credential... More  

BITE Project holds final session in February 2007
