The EBP principle is to be based on volunteer contributions of the greatest possible number of authors, working according to a “Wikidedian” spirit. Therefore the EBP access and membership are free of charge and the quality of the EBP content is exclusively depending on the quality of the users community contributions.
Unisys (Belgium) is the “Portal administrator” in charge of building and managing the EBP, according to a Service contract 30-CE-0013926/00-95 with the European Community, as it was published in Official Journal 2005/S 73-070010 after an open call for tender. As Portal administrator, Unisys has the sole responsibility of performing this contract, and can take all actions with the purpose to improve the EBP and its content. In particular, Unisys has the right to moderate contributions and has all powers to accept or reject any contribution. In executing this mission, Unisys does not endorse the responsibility for the content of the submitted contributions: this responsibility, if any, belongs to the author submitting the information. Unisys does not represent the Commission and therefore nothing in the EBP could have binding consequence for the European Commission. The Commission and the Portal administrator accept no responsibility or liability whatsoever with regard to the information on this site.
This information is:
- of a general nature only and is not intended to address the specific circumstances of any particular individual or entity;
- not necessarily comprehensive, complete, accurate or up to date;
- sometimes linked to external sites over which the EBP services have no control and for which the EBP provider assumes no responsibility;
- not professional or legal advice (if you need specific advice, you should always consult a suitably qualified professional).
It is the EBP goal to minimize disruption caused by technical errors. However some data or information on our site may have been created or structured in files or formats that are not error-free and we cannot guarantee that our service will not be interrupted or otherwise affected by such problems. The Portal administrator accepts no responsibility with regard to such problems incurred as a result of using this site or any linked external sites.
This disclaimer is not intended to limit the liability of the Portal administrator or of the Commission in contravention of any requirements laid down in applicable national law nor to exclude its liability for matters which may not be excluded under that law.

Where prior permission must be obtained for the reproduction or use of textual and multimedia information (sound, images, software, etc.), such permission shall cancel the above-mentioned general permission and shall clearly indicate any restrictions on use.
In particular, the EBP is open to volunteer contributions of any author. By the fact of making yourself a volunteer contribution (for example by submitting on-line to EBP papers, reports, articles, images, or information of any kind), you are deemed and acknowledge to be the author or the legitimate copyright owner or the licensee of this information including all attached documents, you declare to be entitled to communicate and publish it, and you provide to the European Commission and to the Portal administrator a free of charge non-exclusive licence, for the duration of your own copyright, to publish and distribute this information through the Internet via the European Biometrics Portal. By doing that, you will - as the author - keep intact all your other benefits resulting from copyright and moral rights law.
Personal Data Protection
|
The European Union is committed to user privacy.
The policy on "protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions" is based on Regulation (EC) N° 45/2001 [234 KB] of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000.
This general policy covers the European Union's family of institutional Web Sites, within the eu.int domain.
Although you can browse through most of these Web Sites without giving any information about yourself, in some cases, personal information is required in order to provide the e-services you request.
Web Sites that require such information treat it according to the policy described in the Regulation mentioned above and provide information about the use of your data in their specific privacy policy statements.
In this respect:
- For each specific e-service, a controller determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data and ensures conformity of the specific e-service with the privacy policy;
- Within each Institution, a Data Protection Officer ensures that the provisions of the Regulation are applied and advises controllers on fulfilling their obligations (see art. 24 of the Regulation);
- For all the Institutions, the European Data Protection Supervisor [27 KB] will act as an independent supervisory authority (see art. 41 to 45 of the Regulation).
In particular, the EBP collect your personal data with two purposes:
- To identify yourself uniquely, as author of your contribution if you decide to become logged user of the EBP (this allowing you to contribute to the content);
- To provide you EBP newsletters that will be sent to your unique e-mail address.
The usage of these personal data is strictly limited to the two above EBP purposes. All other usages are excluded. The data will be kept only as long the EBP will operate and will be deleted if the EBP mission was stopped.
Each EBP logged user will be entitled to access and to manage his personal data (name, surname, birth date) trough his logged access to EBP.
The EBP logged user is sole responsible of his personal data (the Portal administrator will make no verification or corrections).
Personal data are encrypted and protected against unauthorised access in the EBP database.
For any complaints or queries concerning the management of your personal data please contact: ebp@unisys.com
How do we treat e-mails you send us?
EBP, as many web pages on Europa have a "Contact" button, which activates your e-mail software and invites you to send your comments to specific functional mailbox.
When you send such a message, your personal data is collected only to the extent necessary to reply.
If you have any questions about the processing of your e-mail and related personal data, do not hesitate to include them in your message.
